I can't see the Lib Dems winning an election of course however:
Are we looking at 1981 all over again? A very unpopular Tory administration and a very left wing Labour opposition.
Back then the SDP broke from Labour and surged in the polls until Labour jettisoned the commies and Thatcher drove out the Argies.
Can't see Labour binnig Corbyn, Milne and co for the forseeable future, and hands up who thinks there's going to be a Brexit Falklands effect.

There is definitely room for a third party and I think as a cuntry we do need this. The lib dems cant fill the space but maybe another could be formed from disaffected Labour and Tories and of course some of the UKIP members.

It will be interesting to see.

Ick, no one has any idea what Brexit will bring, but if Junker continues with the EU project as in is recent speech then there could well be a 'Brexit Faulklands'. Who knows, a week in politics is a long time.

Sir Vince has to maintain the illusion of election, because to fail to do so would be to admit that there is no point in him or his party carrying on.

Of course, he is realistic enough to know that his stance is laughable, but he is still obliged to maintain it, and keep his post.

Although otherwise I agree with your post. I think the Lib Dems are going to suffer from the coalition for too long to matter for a good decade or so -- more's the pity, as I think they made a good fist of being coalition partners overall -- but the UK will miss genuine three-party politics.

Indeed ymb ("Cuntry" reminds me of the old joke about Margaret Thatcher btw but I digress :-) )
But I think the other parties would be wise not to rely on the coalition effect for much longer.
