This young chap has gone through three years and two court cases only to be finely cleared of rape, whereas the accuser remains unidentified and free to carry on with her life with no 'there's no smoke without fire' comments made against her.

The reason why men accused of rape are named is because it’s so difficult to prove when it’s one word against another.

However, in many cases other women will come forward (those who may have shied away from reporting assaults in the past through misguided shame). When this happens, the police can show that there is a pattern of behaviour, which strengthens the case against the accused.
"TTT...with rape being hard to prove do you not think naming the accuser would deter them from reporting it? " - it might so name neither. The problem is that of late what constitutes rape has been greyed to the ridiculous. Not saying it's right or wrong but go back 30 years and this case would not have been brought. Then there are the malicious "victims" that wield power to ruin lives because of a perceived slight after the event for example. The safest way is name neither I guess.
I have 2 sons and it terrifies me that they could suffer like this lad because of some silly girl giving off the wrong signs and changing her mind or whatever. Are the lads supposed to carry around a legal consent form and get them to sign it?
I'm not sure that going back 30 years in matters of attitudes sexual assault is the path to enlightenment.
Also, TTT, no, of course they don't need that. But it's not difficult to establish consent, and it can even add somewhat to the experience, so I'm led to believe.
You might feel differently if you had a daughter TGT....

/// A medical examination carried out on the woman several days later showed no traces of his DNA. ///

Was it 'several days later' when she reported him for rape?
well JTT if I did I'd hope I'd teach her not to go to bed with blokes so readily.
The law is blind. But only blind if you are a specific gender in this case.

Naming men is to find other victims. If they are named the same should apply to her if the man is found not guilty.

In these situation either name both or neither.
whiskeryron - what has the gender of the parties got to do with anything? Men rape men and women have been found guilty of rape, too.
Perhaps you could also teach your daughter that she can be with anyone she likes without being effectively deemed a "***"?
The were watching a film and fell asleep in a dorm room. That doesn't mean she jumped into bed with him!

He hardly held her down, how come she woke with her on top of him?

How can anyone lift a drunken unconscious person on top of one's self, and then take part in the sex act, surely there as to be a little cooperation from the other person?
The Jury also found that her claims were insufficient as to secure a conviction against the accused, AOG.
That's what I do find odd.

It would have happened the other way round , if it did.
///She was named before, during and after the trial.....and quite rightly, too.///

Again, obviously not at a rape trial.
If the police can use the man's name to 'go on a fishing trip', then the women's name should be out there to assist the defence.
Or neither which would be my preference.
The various defences a man deploys against rape accusations are already pretty demeaning to the woman as it is. That's not exactly their fault, per se -- what other defence is there to the accusation of no consent being given other than "she was gagging for it and always has done"?

But anyway, the defendant knows the name of his/her accuser, so is still free to prepare a defence based on possible past histories, but there's absolutely not a shred of public interest in naming the accuser.
they went to bed, watched a film and she woke up on top of him! seriously? So how can the one on the bottom be the one to force the issue? , this guy suffered three years of hell for that?
Use your brain, ttt...x
