Are you saying that becoming an Italian citizen is the ruination of ones life? Not that bad is it? We are all free to live anywhere we want and are allowed to. As it happens if I did not live in England Italy would be my next choice in Europe.

Lots of people in the industry are horrified by Brexit because it will be the death of international film making in the UK, and if Brexit ever actually looks like really happening ( getting more and more unlikely by the minute lol) I too will be getting residency elsewhere in Europe, as will a lot of other actors and industry professionals. the last two jobs I went for filmed in Romania and the Ukraine, and of all the ones I'm currently in for only two are filming in the UK, virtually nothing is filmed here anymore in the big scheme of things.

EU passport again. Once again, there is no such thing as an EU passport! If Colin Firth has taken Italian citizenship, then he will be entitled to an Italian passport. If he has maintained his British nationality, then he will be entitled to retain his British passport. It's called dual nationality.

Why is this so difficult?

As a member of the EEC, you can only hold one nationality - since 1998 as my daughter was born in Holland that year and pre 98, she could have held 3 passports.
