I have severe reservations about electric cars but Dyson does have a reputation for exporting jobs abroad, and yes.....they will never be cheap. But what current electric cars are cheap now ?

Can't have socialist style taxation as the Tories have been in since 1979.

Anyone no one is gullible enough to think it is paying a fair share of taxes to the nation that forces manufacturing to be done at the cheap economy places in the world. It's a desire to maximise profit regardless which country fails to benefit as a result. Sell stuff here but not generate the wealth here, is a grand way to lose wealth to another nation.

Besides it's yet to be established that electric cars are the sensible way to go. We are already pushing our ability to generate enough electricity. May well be a limited fashion, and something better comes along.

There was a rubber band ( not a joke, an actual rubber band ) that kept breaking on the only Dyson vacuum cleaner I ever owned. Hopefully that will not be an issue with the cars.

No they are replacing the rubber band with an electric motor that winds up the clockwork every mile.

The will be no advantage to switching from petrol to electric cars in the UK, because we have mostly dirty electricity generation.
The the amount of pillution stopped from the tail pipe of a car, the same amount will be spewed out by our coal and gas generated electric piwer stations.

One once saw a vast number of 'Smart Cars' on our roads, but yesterday I saw the only one I have seen in ages.

Things are unlikely to change in your lifetime AOG.

The batteries are simply not good enough for anything but very small journeys.

Also there is some doubt as to how 'green' these batteries and cars are especailly when toting up over a 10 year car life.

" - bang on gromit, I've been saying for years that electric cars in effect waste 80% (hydrogen wastes 96%) of the fossil fuel used to generate them. Until we have primarily renewable sources we'd be better off having coal/steam powered cars!

The Smart ForTwo has a petrol/deisel engine.
It is German owned and manufactured in France.
Sales figures are increasing so If you are not seeing as many of them, then the reason may be that the people who used to buy Smart Cars are buying actual Electric Cars such as the UK made Nissan Leaf.
