Perhaps you could try the alternative approach, TTT, of waiting until your GP answers the question, staring at them intently for a few seconds while half-smiling to yourself, then answer whichever one matches the gender of your doctor accompanied by a knowing wink.
Or maybe not.

on another thread, SP make the point that in cases of alleged political correctness, it's the 5% of loony trolls that get listened to in making the point. this matter just demonstrates that officialdom is just as likely to defer to that 5%, lest they should be screamed at for being (you word here) ist.
Talbot, what would the doctors make of this guy?

I have read the linked article carefully, and can find nothing to suggest that this has been forced by any minority group or that 'officialdom is deferring to "that 5%"'.
I've checked and NHS England did work with Manchester's LGBT Foundation, but that doesn't mean that doesn't suggest that this was a PC move, or that it was prompted 'by the 5%'.

NHS England have said that the data was already being collected in many areas but that the new guidance makes it standard. It has also said that lesbian, gay and bisexual people were disproportionately affected by health inequalities such as poor mental health and a higher risk of self-harm and suicide.
I assume that the data collection is being introduced in order to give clinicians a better understanding of their patients.

In a few years time, the question of sexuality might become as innocuous as 'How much exercise do you take?' or 'Do you smoke?' or 'How many units of alcohol do you drink per week?'
At least with the 'What sexuality do you consider yourself?' we have the option of saying, "I would rather not say", unlike the 'How many units of alcohol do you drink per week?' question which is always answered with a complete lie. (I always halve mine and add 10%).
