Lack Of Progress On Eu Divorce Bill
It appears that the problem is, we won’t tell the a figure that we will pay...
// Theresa May has refused to put a figure on Britain’s Brexit divorce bill during the first phase of secession negotiations as EU leaders warn she will need to make a concrete offer in order to make progress.
Speaking at the European Council summit in Brussels the Prime Minister told reporters that the figure for the liabilities bill – estimated to be at least £20 billion – would only be named at the very final stages of talks.
EU leaders and negotiators however say those final stages will only be reached once the divorce bill is finalised – continuing the deadlock between the two sides. //

I had assumed they were haggling over the price, and they would eventually meet somewhere in the middle.
If the British negotiators will not reveal a figure, how can any progress be made ?

It is believed to be €60bn, but that is unconfirmed.

No.
The EU have gone to the table with a figure. The UK haven’t.
Both sides will not publicise their figure because the final agreed figure will be somewhere inbetween.
But we need to know both starting points befor a middle figure can be worked out. And the UK won’t say. At least won’t say in the negotiations.

So the EU still haven't sent an itemised, costed bill then?
The link, which as rather lengthy, said there were different methodologies for calculation.
If that's the case pick one and make your bid from that. It is for the EU to come to us with this itemised, costed bill and for us to then say yay or nay and give reasons. I am assuming because nothing of the sort has come out they haven't!!
Otherwise the bill is zero.
Who was it that said, and I read it only a few days ago, the EU don't negotiate they have a tick box and if you don't get the ticks you don't get anything. Perhaps if that is what we also had then negotiations would be on an even footing!!

Cassa,
The EU have put €60billion n the table. The talks are in private, but I imagine they will have to justify whatever figure they present. Neither side can just pluck a figure from mid air, they will have to show their working out.
Tora, you are bizarre. Wanting the UK to resolve Brexit as soon as possible, and not drag it out for years is not the enemy within. Why do you want this to transition for years and years. May wants to extend our leaving until 2021, meaning we pay an extra £22billion on top of what we already owe. You seem to be supporting the UK on that idiotic course. I say settle somewhere between €20bn and €60bn asap, and get on with the more important stuff of our future trade with the EU as quickly as is feasable.

jim: "Good idea, I'd love to have a bit of peace and quiet from your paranoid rambling." - it's not compulsory!
cassa; "So the EU still haven't sent an itemised, costed bill then?" - pass me a snuggie! this is the EU that cannot find an accountant bent enough in the entire world to sign off their accounts for the last 20 years! ROFL!

The problem is, according to rumour as reported on tonight's news, that May may have privately suggested she was prepared to give aways billions more of our money. If so it would explain why the other side of the table are being intransigent. They would have effectively been encouraged to be so.
I hope it isn't true as the offer she's already made is premature and excessive, since the EU have yet to justify where their demands come from, nor shown legal justification for any responsibly we have for these bills.
High time we walked away from the table. Maybe we can have a referendum to put Farage in charge of any further negotiations.

"TTT...please give over about Vichy, and collaborators, and "the enemy".....I find it highly offensive to be lumped in with WW2 Nazi sympathisers. " - stop doing it then, those are the correct terms for what you and others do, if you find it offensive then you are doing the deed. The EU are the enemy, the fact their actions are done peacefully does not change the outcome, they progress because people like you cannot see what they are doing. One day you'll wake up and it will be like an occupied space, all be it achieved by non military means. That's why brexit was voted for and why we will brexit. Start supporting Britain and you become one of the good guys.
