Let's go back to the roots, the 2nd Amendment includes, 'A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.'
To overthrow that 70% of both Houses is needed - now how practical is that with current US politics and, by that, go back to 1950 or even 1900. Nope, it ain't.
The only chance is some semblance of control over the bullets and shot, perhaps heavily taxed federally and then rebates to legitimate and cleared gun clubs, farmers etc - (p.s. even the police have to buy their own bullets in the Land of the Free).
Then there is always the alternative route of buying guns of any sort, ditto the firepower, Semtex or whatever south of the Rio Grande. A wall will certainly stop that (splutter).......

I don't see anything in that which could not be got round with a bit of will on all sides. I note the term "well regulated" - which hardly covers the Nazi militia what showed up in Charlottesville.
Then there is "the right" to bear arms. That is not the same as "everyone shall be allowed to buy any old gun and stockpile with military grade ammunition"
That will simply is not there, and that is what is shocking

Not how it is seen by your average checked shirt-blue jeans American or your DC, NY or Boston lawyers or entrepreneurs.....until the average American (whatever that is) can be persuaded to counter the 2nd, no joy will be had, and certainly not to we Brits, not that our opinion or leadership on control matters.
The interesting one for me is Canada and, even though they are so adjacent in so many areas of society at large, Canada has not had the same problems......why must be a very valid question?
