Given that the pupil identifies with the gender they aren't, then the teacher was correct. It's insane that he'd pretend he was wrong for not playing along with the deception, let alone be in trouble for his honesty.
'these people'?
Can you explain please?
Sounds like a typical Dog Whistle DM article to me......move along there....nothing much to see here !
I don't know why the teacher couldn't have just apologised and let that be an end to it.

I remember a teacher asking a person in my class if he was a boy or a girl [35 years ago]. I'm sure it must have been upsetting for the boy, at the time, but surely not worth the teacher losing his job.
Ha. When i take teh register about 20% of pupils find it funny to say "here, miss" rather than "here, sir". Maybe I should log the incidents and ask that they be excluded.
On the face of it it seems an easy mistake to make and I have done it. It seems to have got very much out of hand (mountains and molehills). But in cases like this there is usually more to it than first meets the eye. It seems there are several other issues involved in this case too regarding this teacher, so maybe until the investigations are concluded we should just wait and see unless anyone knows all the facts of this case. I hope he gets a fair hearing.
Indeed...there does look like there's more to the story.

Documents seen by The Mail on Sunday show the investigation also heard uncorroborated claims that Mr Sutcliffe had made several other references to the pupil as a ‘girl’ and had inappropriately discussed religious issues in his maths lessons, which he denies.

"these people'?
Can you explain please?"

May I answer?
People who are genetically male or female who feel the need to question their genetic predisposition which involves cultural changes to their lifestyle.
Because we now live in a society where we are afraid to cause offence. I think teachers have a hard enough job as it is, without the added stress.
I'm guessing "these people" possibly refers to the grovelling apologists who have become offended on behalf of a child and its parents; offence which may herald the end of a young man's career because he made an innocent mistake.

If getting my sex wrong had been the worst thing a teacher had ever done to me, I wouldn't sit down and cry. However one of my teachers once struck me so hard (twice in succession) that she left me bruised. She never had any form of disciplinary action.
But this does not appear to be the whole story!
Has this teacher consistently called the child another gender despite being asked not to?

I really dislike the word apologists - its normally bandied about by people who are really unhappy with their lot in life and want to make everyone as miserable as them.
Although I am sure that is not the case here.

That's not my impression.

The problem is politically correct society insists on making concessions and ends up climbing up its own bottom.
:-)

You've got me, Islay. There's clearly no fooling you. I am unhappy with my lot and boy have I got a LOT to be unhappy about...
:-)
NoMercy, please read the entire comment before losing your temper, there's a good girl!

I didn't realise I had lost my temper. I rather think you are the one spitting your dummy out. Chill out, there's a good girl...

Having read the article, it seems that he did not make a mistake but was taking his beliefs in the subject into the classroom, which is wrong. It also seems that he was asked not to do it and continued.
lol
what a load of cobblers !
I knew you'd come back with a highly intelligent retort...
Trans means in motion so the child's gender remains as registered, as the teacher addressed 'it',
'These people' are being 'pandered to' not because this teacher accidentally called a pupil by the wrong pronoun, once, but because this teacher, because of his religious views, which are inappropriate to bring into the workplace, has decided to circumvent parts of the law and parts of the school guidelines by deliberately avoiding an issue he personally does not agree with ( non birth gender choices).
This is not an isolated incident, and the child's very level headed sounding parents have said they would not have complained about the mis-gendering alone but they felt that this teacher was picking on their child because of his choices, and that he was punishing their child unfairly. The school has not found this to be the case however, the parents would be failing as parents if they did not press this matter if they genuinely believed this to be true. Anyone you speak to, almost anyone at all, can regale you about a teacher who once picked on them, and them alone, so it's not an unusual scenario, given that the child possibly would attribute being given detentions he might feel uncalled for or unfair because he would have been aware that his choice of gender was disapproved of by this teacher. The teacher says this:-
‘I had always tried to respect the pupil and keep a professional attitude as well as my integrity, but it seemed to me that the school was trying to force me to adhere to its liberal, Leftish agenda.’
That strongly implies to me that he maintains his 'integrity' by not adhering to the school's agenda at all, trying to be clever and avoiding of inclusion because of his religious beliefs, that he himself is right wing and conservative because of the turn of phrase he used and it makes me wonder why he wants to work there at all in that case, since he seems unable to abide by the rules.
He also says that he's not 'trained' to deal with being disciplined, which is a bit limp and crap and 'oh look at me I'm such a victim of political correctness' / 'I shall stand up for my religious beliefs and be a martyr in the Daily Mail instead of doing my job properly'- and hasn't he heard of ACAS?
Coupled with the very good Daily Wail sad face he managed to pull for the picture, he's really absolutely no sympathy from me. He tried to be a clever clever dick and it blew up in his face. Sad times fella, just do your job.
