/// Speaking during a question and answer session at the Economic Club of Chicago on Tuesday, the former US president warned against growing nativism in America. ///

Hey look! there's another 'ism' entering the Left's vocabulary, 'NATIVISM'.

To be expected. Name calling and the Left are synonymous.
Is this the same as, similar to or totally different from "Native Americanism"?
what on earth can Obama be thinking, Trump may be a misogynist, and somewhat out of step with real life, but he's not Hitler.
It's probably important to be aware of how fragile democracy can be if you allow anger to become too dominant a force in driving the country. I don't think America in 2017 is in the same place as Germany in 1933, but if everyone stopped paying attention then who knows how far we could go down the same road? What if, for example, Trump attempted to repeal the 22nd Amendment that limits him to two terms?

He won't be successful even if he tries but the trick to ensuring that the comparison is invalid is to be aware that it *might* be.

Just asking like.
He didn't .
//What if, for example, Trump attempted to repeal the 22nd Amendment that limits him to two terms? //

And where exactly did you get that snippet from, or are you just doing the other Left wing trick of spouting and then repeating something you would like to be true until people think it is true?

Although Mr Obama did not mention Donald Trump by name, some believed his comments were aimed at the current US president and his “Make America Great Again” rhetoric - which critics argue has fuelled nationalism.
He did not compare Trump to Hitler.

He compared the situation. And he said we must beguarded against it. What seems like a functioning democracy can quickly be usurped by tyranical elements.
Obamaseems to be saying - History can help us if we see the same mistakes being repeated. He is right about that.
Lessons from history? And we're being instructed in them by Obama?

Let's forget the 22nd Amendment and think just of the 1st. What place, does the Orwellian concept of "hate speech" have in a free society?
I don't think Trump has any intention of repealing the 22nd Amendment, ymb. It's purely hypothetical.

It's clear from looking at Trump's speeches, outbursts, tweets, and somewhat hypocritical use of executive orders that he can be more than a little frustrated by the checks and balances that apply to the President's powers. Maybe so were other presidents but they had the relatively good sense to keep their frustrations private.

It's something to look out for, is all -- not something I expect.

He is 100% correct. There are worrying similarities between Hitler's campaine to make Germany the greatest power on Earth and Trump's 'Make America Great Again' campaine.
I think 'Nativism' in this context refers to increasing the status of America as a nation rather than to Native Americans. It seems to be being used as an opposite to 'Colonialism' There ought be a better way to phase it .
OMG EDDIE what a load of twaddle !
bazza getting a bit silly there, start worrying when he abolishes the opposition mate!
hilter hated the jews trump loves them
hitler not hilter
Hitler was an admirer of Islamic fascism and Trump is moving the US Embassy into Jerusalem.
Next question please.
Eddie, have you considered therapy?
AOG

He did not compare Trump to Hitler.

Some people have inferred that, but he didn't say explicitly say so.
