ok SP: The area of Palestine was controlled by the British after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in 1917, from then to the end of WWII it was essentially a mixture of Arabs and Jews, at times in conflict and at times even tolerating each other. In 1922 the British where officially granted control over the area by the league of nations, that declaration included approval to partition the area between the jews and the Arabs. It was agreed by the Jews but not the Arabs. The area limped on until 1947 when after WWII Britain declined to manage the area further. The UN then implemented the afore mentioned LON resolution and partitioned the area.
