This speaks to previous threads where I have commented on the simple fact that alcohol is so woven into British culture, that to start to take serious steps to curb its abuse is political suicide, which is why successive governments tiptoe around the edges of serious action. I am in favour of the drunk tank, with a £200 for first use, escalating with each...

seems a good idea, the problem in cities at the weekends seems to be growing, with happy hours and cheap specials.. and a youngish customer base with large disposable income... don't know what the answer is..education and restriction ?
Great idea. Shame the police no longer charge people with being drunk and disorderly, nor licencees for serving alcohol to drunk people.
Excellent idea .
Charge them, they will soon sober up when they see the cost.
I tend to think it's a good thing if it protects those who are in a very vulnerable state. Granted that state is self inflicted, but the units may stop worse from happening and possibly lessen some of what the NHS deals with in hospitals due to the over indulgence of many.
Ideally they'd be financed by the pubs and supermarkets rather than the NHS.
Unsure I understand the theory. If a person is injured they need medical help, which is A&E. If they don't then they ought not be there at all. If this bus is coping with medical aid then it's merely an extension of the A&E anyway. May as well just extended A&E to an adjacent ward.

When did this happen?
O_G...ideally it's to prevent those who are very drunk from getting into further trouble ( fights, collapse, etc) where injury is likely. It's also a chance to sober up a bit.
Self inflicted Injuries OG, not only that, the abuse the staff get trying to help these idiots is beyond a joke.
What message would be sent out? Just drink as much as you like , get paralytic . You'll be alright because you will be looked after and treated with kid gloves .
Hose them down , leave them to stew in their vomit and charge them with being drunk and disorderly!!
Drunks need to take responsibility for their own stupidity .
If this service goes ahead as no doubt it will in this soft country then charge the drunks for the treatment they have received.
Won't people who are likely to abuse NHS staff likely to abuse the staff that run the drunk tank?
Two words too many there but still ....
Well, staff still need to be there. Still, if they think there's a gain, so be it.
Don't know about other hospitals, but here in Bradford the hospital with the A & E dept. has two officers in situ to deal with any troublemakers./
We have street pastors but I don't know exactly what they do or don't do.
Isn’t this treating the symptoms of the problem rather than the source?
great idea, said this all along, that charge them when they sober up.
Being discussed on R2 now
Better than fine them give them community service, making them clean up the mess that others like them make.
