ichkeria - // I do find it disappointing that there is so much attempt to stifle debate by saying: "the people have spoken/he's irrelevant/she shouldn't say that" etc etc. Luckily, no one pays any attention :-) //

People saying that is not 'stifling' debate, it IS debate.
That's just your opinion tho.
Well, I beg to differ on the idea that "the debate is over" is engaging in any sort of argument.
But as I said, luckily no one pays any attention.

I have never said that the debate is over - clearly it isn't - but experience of Mr Blair both in and out of power indicates that he is undeserving of your image of him as someone who cares about the country and its people - as opposed to his own self-aggrandisement which continues with the speed and fervour of a runaway train.
How is his speaking out on Brexit evdicence of his interest in his own self-aggrandizement?
You don't agree with him. And you plainly don't like him. That is perfectly ok by me. Nor do many, which is certainly one reason why I wish it was someone else making the case as outspokenly. But I am not sure your representation is particularly fair. You have misunderstood or misrepresented his case. I know you still disagree, but at least do so on the basis of what he is actually saying, not what you think he is saying and certainly not because of what he may or may not have done in the past. That is just padding.

Winston Churchill remains a hero of the nation to this day because of his actions pertaining to involving the country in a war.

Mr Blair remains a demon because of his.

We are all the product of our actions - politicians make careers based on them, and they must carry their triumphs and their failures with them.

If you think an illegal war in which thousands of civilians and military personal were killed and wounded is 'padding', then we obviously have different dictionaries.
If we follow your logic, andy-hughes, Churchill would not have been allowed to do the great things he did in later life thanks to what he did in his earlier life. Gallipoli for example. You'd be better off using Churchill as an example of why old politicians who have made mistakes in the past should be listened to.

But Tony Blair isn't a politician, is he?

He is a pariah in British politics, he makes millions from private consultancy and speech engagements.

He is not even on the periphery of British politics, he is an embarrassment to his former party, and an openly despised forgotten con artist to the electorate.

I am sure that if I was a relative of any of the UK service personnel who lost lives in the conflicts he took them into, I would feel fresh grief every time his saintly visage appeared on national media trying to swerve an ongoing democratically decided process from the side-lines.

He should have the humility to stay out of the public eye, he is not wanted, or necessary.

The problem with people who have a lack of humility though, andy-hughes, is that they don't listen to anybody ... they just plough on doing their own sweet thing. In fact I heard from Tony Blair and he told me that when he needs a complete stranger to tell him what to do, he absolutely promises that you'll be the first person he contacts.
