as if it's not expensive enough. Surely there must be a better way to dispose of all these billions of coffee non disposable cups.

"...we are talking of 25p per cup, a not inconsiderable tax," It still won't stop people drinking it. If you have two a day five days a week it will cost you £32.50 instead of £30.00 (assuming £3 per cup). People shelling out thirty quid a week on coffee obviously have a bit of income to dispose of because there are far cheaper alternatives. That much extra over...

Somebody needs to come up with a method of producing disposable coffee cups that can be recycled.
I get a discount on my coffee every day as I use a reusable cup, perhaps that is the route they need to go down
Question Author
I think they should be using recyclable cups after all how much more expensive can it be to produce them. Or as you say bring your own.
emmie the cups are recyclable. There was an interesting bit on Breakfast Time. There are two plants in the UK which can recycle them; the issue and expense is in getting hold of the cups in the first place because they need to be disposed of separately from other rubbish as picking adds costs and potentially pollutes the recycling, and transporting them to the plants who currently have spare capacity.
can't resist an opportunity to reap in more revenue through tax can they?

25p tax levy, that is a bit steep, i don't buy take away coffee as i find it extortionate as it is.
Well you get 25p discount at Starbucks if you bring your own cup so it cancels out the levy.
2.5 billion 25p’s a year.
I can see why they want to do this.

I’m sure it would cost less than 25p to make a recyclable cup, especially if they are making 2.5billion of them.
Oh look a blast from the past from our forester :-)
good idea, anyone radio enough to pay the prices now will pay more. I know people who spend £20 a day on this tish! un-&^*)in- believable!
£20 a day?
Will it affect the likes of McDonald's as well, or is it just coffee shops?
It's just a trend to carry a cup in one hand and phone in the other. I hope it dies out soon along with daft beards and topknots. The falling- down jeans seem to be on their way out, thank flip.

I agree with TTT. I drink coffee and tea at home. If people are stupid enough to pay for a single cup of coffee the same price that I pay for a whole jar which will last me two months then they deserve to be ripped off.
quite feasible ummmm, 6 x large mocha, choccy, woccy, toffee bonzo dooda etc in a day. over £3 a pop.
I don't think drinking coffee is a trend.
They should invest in a kettle and flask.
Drinking coffee is not a trend. Walking around the streets with a takeaway coffee is.
Ummm, I didn't mean drinking coffee was a trend. I meant that drinking it outdoors was. In the summer it's a bottle of water. Got to disagree, eh?

I've never really noticed.
