Its is H&M's fault, it Wouldnt have been one person, there would have been a team and the campaign signed off, I find it hard to believe this got past everyone involved & the cynic in me wonders if it was deliberate.
It's not the end of the world, there are far worse things going on but it is very recent history and probably still ongoing that black people have be told to go back to the jungle so to put a black model in this top was always going to provoke a reaction the mum's response isn't really relevant.

Nowadays clothes models are photographed in a series of poses with the clothes added afterwards by computer. This is also the case for furniture adverts and I suspect many other tv and photo ads, too.
It is reasonable to believe that the mother nor the child himself even saw the clothes before they were published. I'm not saying this is definitely the case but it is a possibility.
Mother wouldn't rock the boat of her son's modelling career by speaking against the advert; or she may genuinely see nothing wrong with the slogan.

You'd be surprised, khandro. One of the big furniture retailers who frequently advertise on tv were fined because they misrepresented the size of a sofa. They had shrunk the woman who walked up to it and sat on it so the sofa appeared bigger than it actually was.
Their defence was they used the images of the woman on various sofas and chairs and didn't mean to mislead. The advertising company would have all the software necessary to change the boys clothing quickly
