It is a truism that people who subscribe to Facebook are subject to far more harassment and abuse than previously. I consider it to be a force for moral degeneracy. Just my opinion, of course.

facebook at least did the right thing in notifying the police.

Facebook is very heavily regulated as it happens: perhaps not very intelligently in a lot of cases, but give people the means to communicate with each other and some will abuse it. It's always been the case and always will. Facebook Messenger, which millions of people use every day is one of a number of such applications.

I have never understood the need for it. If I wish to share information with someone I send them an email.

I don't know what stage these discussions are now at but they would treat swathes of the internet including Facebook and Google as Publishers.
