From what I can ascertain economic sanctions were imposed by the EU just two months ago and by the US 5 months ago. You’ll have to try harder than that to convince me that left-wing mismanagement isn’t the root cause of Venezuela’s problems. Left-wing politics doesn’t work …. ever!

In 2007 Chavez nationalised ExxonMobil's considerable assets in the country, which the company valued at $10 billion. The losses were a big blow to Rex Tillerson, who was Exxon boss at the time. Tillerson took the seizure as a personal affront.

Cut to today and Tillerson is Trump’s appointee to US Secretary of State and the one pushing for regime change. Hence the ratcheting up of sanctions and lurid newspaper propaganda.
