But, for starters, she was abandoned by here Party, because that same Party saw her as a liability, and her continuing presence in Number Ten was tantamount to offering the next Election on a plate to about to Labour.......that is why the knives came out.
As soon as she was out of the way, The Tories popularity began to grow, and they went to win the next Election under John Major.
That is how popular she was. One of her less-esteemed male colleagues said " that all great political careers end in failure", and he was right on that point at least.

I had forgotten just how cringingly awful Kinnock was.
I have just rewatched the Vote of N Confidence debate from 1990, and it was indeed a confident performance from Thatcher.
I suggest Mikey wates it too...

This horse’s mouth, as it were, gives figures for all bar one of the UK’s main political parties but contains the following sentence:
“As of December 2013 (latest published figure) the Conservative Party had 149,800 members.”
Note especially the interesting fact that they have refused to divulge their membership figure for over four years! You can’t surely, seriously imagine that - had they been surging ahead in memberships - they would have remained silent!

mikey; I can't see her going voluntarily, I don't think the bottle of Scotch and a revolver are quite her style.
Here's an extract from tomorrow's Speccie;
"Theresa May has become so frightened of putting a foot wrong that she’s now extremely reluctant to confront any controversial issue. This is an exceedingly dangerous position for a Prime Minister. You can’t lead if you can’t make decisions. Her timidity has been exacerbated by the election. Her unusually bold call to go to the country four years early blew up in her face and as a result, she is more cautious than ever —"
