It is being addressed. Two ladies were interviewed on TV this morning. They are trying to educate the girls in schools and teach them and teachers what to do if they suspect it's going to happen to them.

The big problem is secrecy. How many young girls have their genitals examined?

How many others know that something that was done to them was wrong?

How many people in the wider community had even heard of FGM before say, five years ago?

If you spool back to 1985, when FGM was outlawed, had you heard of it? Or anyone else you know? You can't say, "Why has there been no prosecutions in 30 years when for much of that time, the process flew under the radar.

A couple of weeks ago I accompanied my wife to hospital and found myself reading a poster in the waiting room. It was about FGM, and said that staff should report all cases of it. So the practice is no secret, is it?
