Reading the article you should still be able to have a nice holiday, many places have gone no smoking to please tourists, younger customers and families with children.

I didn't realise smoking was quite so entrenched in Austrian culture as it appears to be.

It doesn't work just to say non smokers can choose whether to go to smokey bars.

We went to Austria last summer and there was a quiz night arranged by the tour operator on the first night. I was surprised to find people smoking there, as I hadn't realised there was no ban.

We didn't really have a choice, if we wanted to join the group.

I never saw any signs for smoke free bars anyway.

I agree in many places rules are flouted, family travel widely through Europe and have a place in Prague - you often have to take your chances.

Yep. Although there was a similar fuss here before the ban, I doubt any smoker cares now. They seem to like going out going out and having a little break every so often, and everyone benefits from the fug-free atmosphere. No-one likes inhaling second hand smoke, not even smokers.

As far as work goes, they're quids in. Every smoker at my place works about an hour a day less than everyone else thanks to all the breaks they have.

@ 18:51 True perhaps? Do they smell worse than a "biker's" leathers? Do their clothes carry more damaging particles than a leather onesy in an outdoor dining area? Try Betws Y Coed for a summer outdoor bit of lunch with a score of bikers in leathers a few feet away if you need a reminder about polluting your neighbours. All usually goby as well . Bet not one of them has any concern for the people they live with, when it comes to dumping their cancer carrying attire on their close family.
