I'm a bit late, but I think that all you have to do is look at poor Mary Beard today. She is in tears. She posted a perfectly sane opinion regarding the Oxfam issue and began with the statement that she did not condone any misbehaviour (to paraphrase). She went on to try to understand the stresses that might make unpardonable behaviour, pardonable. She is being crucified on line, poor woman.
Debate and sane, rational argument no longer seem to apply. Mob mentality is growing. Perhaps lack of vocabulary has something to do with it, but I feel that it is a deeper schism than that.
