Beware - In The Southwest At Least, Sainsbury Blueberry Muffins.

Extra bite in them - my daughter bought a pack of their 12x blueberry muffins yesterday as they were out of the big ones (and she likes them). It was fairly late on around 4pm as we were waiting for a prescription to be prepared at the surgery's Boots.

This afternoon, she bit into one having eaten two - to be greeted with a shard of glass, a sort-of-pentagonal shape, 0.15cm x 0.1cm that has cut the top of her mouth...taste of blood the result and a little stemming needed.

Phoned Sainsbury's to warn them and we'll bring them in tomorrow - the manager going to get hold of regional and a product withdrawal across the Southwest on the cards......As my daughter said, I've eaten two already and don't know if they and the others have glass in them......

The glass is also carrying remnants of the sponge so it was baked into the mini-muffin.....as the manager says, we buy them in and there is no glass between arrival and sale to the public. He was, to be fair, most apologetic.

Anybody any experience of this - and how did it play out with the supermarket in terms of process and compensation?

A smidge of blood but she will survive.....thanks though. Her American instincts equates to lawyers.....'UK doesn't quite work like that'....However, what would be 'reasonable'?

yeah pebble in hazelnuts
which I SAW in my exciting recipe for pork with a hazelnut and cream sauce.
got a free packet

Hazelnuts go thro a gudda-gudda machine that has a denier (!) to let thro the nuts and the rest (too large and too small) gets shunted somewhere else. The system would fail if the pebble were nut sized.

Being a professional man with a reputation, I commented that there was a 99% chance this was put in by the complainer and if I had known that I would never have complained and the manager said "I know".

vast majority of contaminants are put in by the complainant. oops - oo-dear !

oh - punctured cherry can which had only pips and thick cherry juice in it. - had "what do you want us to do about it ven?" from th clerk

That's awful DTC. Glad daughter wasn't badly injured. I think a little compensation wouldn't go amiss!

Last year I had a piece of glass in a carton of chilled "deli" partly sun-dried tomato and cheese mixture, from Waitrose. I returned the remainder (and glass) to the store...very apologetic and twice the cost returned and took my details. Few days later a letter of apology and "we're investigating our supplier"....few weeks later, another apology and a £20 JLP/Waitrose gift card (which I still haven't used!).

took them in, the manager concerned when he saw the shard and the baked-in sponge on it. Details filed and now 'Head office' - checked with M&S and showed them, their view that they would be giving vouchers for £100 to £150, never mind the bolllocking for the supplier.....
