Personally I think it is a great idea, there is nothing more annoying than someone sitting a table speaking in a loud voice, or a date sitting next to you always looking at their phone very off putting I hope this catches on.
What do others think?
I think it is a good idea. Last time I ate out, I was shocked to see on a table of 4 that all 4 diners were chatting away on their phones or taking pictures of their food instead of conversing with each other. They were all in their early 30's.
OK...fine. Then don't go to that particular restaurant OR if you must, then forego the discount.
This is not all about ummmm, ginger and family, it is about mainly people whose evenings are ruined by mobile phone users and id offering a solution, which doesn't suit all.
The pub advertises it's free wifi and multiple charging points so it looks like that mobile use is positively encouraged on the other 6 days of the week.
Depends who you ask. If you ask mobile phone addicts, they will say YES it is rare, but if you ask people who look forward to a quiet night out without mobile disturbances, the will say NO it isn't rare.
People around here seem to make such a din in pubs and restaurants that I don't think someone talking on their mobile phone would make much difference. The accoustics in places changed when they took out the carpets and put solid flooring in and you have to shout to make yourself heard.
Did you read the answers. My kids are often out doing their own thing. Two have recently moved back in and don't have keys yet. So they'll give me a quick ring to see if I'm at home.
People tend to talk much louder on their phones then when talking to someone sitting next to them. So it is more annoying.
I only use my phone at a table if I'm showing my companions a few photos on it, or to check Wimbledon order of play for the next day if I'm with my tennis fan friends.
