I remember those days well. FF. As a small boy I was sent to the store as my mother couldn't be arissed to queue for half an hour or more. The weight of the shopping was such that as a 7 year old I had to drag the bag behind me rather than carry it.
"Maybe we should go back to reading out a list and someone gets it off the shelf for us "
I worked in a shop in Anfield where they did exactly that FF. Customers had to queue in a heavy perspex corridor and place their orders at a protected counter.
Actually I have a friend who will not use ATMs but goes into the bank to withdraw money. When asked by the teller why he simply didn't use the ATM he replied, "Because I don't want to do you out of a job". I think he had a point.
The shops which use these automated checkouts are probably having a rethink anyway, considering the fact that they are losing a lot of money through dishonest use of the tills. Especially by people who switch expensive barcodes for cheap ones before scanning the goods.
