I don't think for one moment that he supports or has any time for Putin and co, but he plainly has no idea how to conduct himself in these situations. His brain is fixed to "combat" mode perpetually it seems.

How very true, Ich. it would be a very foolish man who bets on Putin losing this election. I don't know what it is like now but in Soviet elections people were presented with a ballot paper which listed all the candidates which they just stuffed into the box without any mark. Theoretically you could ask for a pencil and go into a polling booth to strike out any candidates you did not favour. Very few actually did.
There are 8 ‘candidates’ in the Russian election (including a millionaire communist and the daughter of Putin’s patron in St Petersburg back in the day: she is actually an outspoken critic of Putin)

Apart from his gaffe at 3:50 minutes in about cuts, (and I can't believe I'm saying this), but I think it was a good speech. May and her government were far too quick in accusations, threats and the issuing of ultimatums.
Corbyn was correct in saying that more should have been done on a diplomatic level to ascertain exactly what happened in Salisbury before taking the actions she did..
