I see this was yet another ‘something must be done’ thread without any practical suggestion as to what that ‘something’ should be.
It’s the hypocrisy of seemingly wanting our authorities to act whilst having no clue whatsoever what to do themselves which staggers me. From seemingly intelligent people too. It shows a worrying ignorance of the scale of the problem.

If you're staggering have a sit down. I've no doubt plenty of people have ideas but are not in a position to put those ideas into action. I won't ask what you'd suggest - you told me a long time ago you have no idea - but still you add your two-pennyworth by criticising everyone else. Happy days.

Zacs, What are those ideas? Well, at a guess some would want to stricter control over immigration and deportation, longer prison sentences, greater surveillance of mosques and faith schools – and some would say drop a bomb on the lot of them. Loads of ideas – but implementation is not within the remit of the hoi polloi which is why they haven’t been implemented.

Not within the remit of the hoi polloi. Really, Is that what you think? That there are practical solutions and the powers that be, for some reason, aren’t implementing them?
I think the impracticalities / ineffectual nature of many of your suggestions might be the reason.
For example, longer jail sentences. Mmm. Do you seriously think this would be a deterrent to brain washed terrorists? And let’s not even suggest rounding up terror suspects. The impracticalities of this are strewn through debate on here.

I don't think it would be unreasonable to deport the terrorist's whole family in a situation such as this. Why should they continue to enjoy France's hospitality?
If a would-be terrorist knew that their actions would carry that sort of consequence they might think twice.
Of course the better option would be to not let them into the country in the first place.
