I think Corbyn has been waiting for the chance
Either Smith is wrong or the majority of Labour members are. The decision has been made, one doesn't waste time, money and effort doing the right thing then trying to embarass one's nation, and making it an international laughing stock, by risking snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory. Project Fear failed at the time, it can not be allowed to keep plugging away hoping to ruin everything achieved. Smith's replacing seems an inevitable consequence of failing to toe the party line.

///Majority of Labour members want second Brexit vote///

Not great believers in Democracy, the Labour Party, are they?
///Majority of Labour members want second Brexit vote///

in the industrial parts of the uk that labour considers its heartland, the leave vote exceeded the remain vote by a very visible margin. maybe what Mr Smith actually meant was that the majority of labour members in trendy spots like Islington want a second vote.
The Labour Party has a set of policies which it wants to present to the voters. So a Minister should follow the party line when he is working. If he starts spouting stuff that is his person view, and it is at odds with the party policy, then the voters are going to get confused.

Corbyn knows this more than most because he was often a critic of party policy which is why he was never given a Ministerial position and was kept marginalised. Just what he has done to Smith.
"...maybe what Mr Smith actually meant was that the majority of labour members in trendy spots like Islington want a second vote."

Of which Mr Corbyn would be well aware as he's the MP for er... Islington North.
Referendum result Islington:
REMAIN 76,420
LEAVE 25,180
Islington is packed with immigrants? Surprise surprise....

Hazi,

50% of Islington residents are White British and the referendum result there was 75% Remain.

Why the abuse, I am agreeing with you? Are you deliberately trying to divert your own thread into a name calling exercise?

gromit, apologies, I meant it as a TIC reference to previous discussions when "Islington" has been used as a euphemism, the written word can often lose the tone that is intended. No insult intended, trying, and it seems, failing to be amusing! Please accept my apologies.
OK Tora thanks for the apology/explanation.
Your post has been zapped and my repost of it is still there, which is a tad ironic.
Corbyn out.
// Corbyn out. //

Leaders are usually dispatched when they lose a General Election. Corbyn managed that at the first attempt, but then something unusual happened. He didn’t lose it as badly as his colleagues expected, and they regarded the loss as a win, and so he survived.
, God has had an answer removed, how dare they?
oh come on
be fair
everyone knows that there are scores of cowed and starving Brexiters hiding away and saying 'I didnt know it would be like this - if I were asked to vote again......'

sorry souls - bedraggled - unwashed stinkers who whimper
we were told it would be £350 m per week to the NHS and the very next day that arch liar ( Nigel Farage for it was he) admitted he shouldnt have said that !

when they come out of their houses
parents give small children one penny pieces and tuppences to throw at them ! (*)

(*) this occurred in Italy after the old PM Bettino Craxi was convicted to accepting bribes
This is the only Brexit part deux thread I have enjoyed reading

No one is exempt from the AB moderators.
And to be fair, god did waffle and was mega intolerant, so serves him/her right.
//no one is safe from a moderator// erm edited sort of

what about the moderators themselves - quis custodiet ipsos custodes and that jazz. sozza readers a bit of forrin there. Surely they dont read the stuff and think " jesus there is some stuff here that needs to go - and hey! that piece was by me! "
