In addition the us needs to understand why these mass shootings happen. Other countries have guns and dont have the problem. If they dont understand why and ban guns then another method like bombs or trucks would be used.

Slowly, slowly, catchy monkey.
Bit by bit they will change attitudes towards gun ownership. The young are the key in most changes of attitude so if there are more mass killings in schools the issue will spread (I hope of course there will be not others).
A start would be to make assault weapon ownership illegal in the home environment. They could be legal perhaps only in designated firing ranges and signed in and out sort of thing.

No other country had gun ownership remotely comparable to the US. Furthermore, there must be an element of ‘copycat’ in these shootings.
We have had mass shootings here and taken action, with the result that similar attacks have not occurred.
It may be very difficult, but gun control is the way to go

Krom, the luvvies have also hopped on so my question still stands. Personally I think it wold hav carried far more weight if they butted out.
Ick, the US is not remotely like the UK was, they have had barmy laws allowing domestic assault rifles and the such like for many years, we didnt ours was already well controlled. In addition the USA has an estimated 400million guns, we did not have anything like that number even if you proportion to population.
The way it was dealt with in this country was OTT, it punished many innocent gun club types. I just cant see that happening in the USA I wouldn't mind betting that many of the liberals bleating have a gun tucked away somewhere if they live out of the cities.
They need to find a whole new solution that will work and be accepted by the majority which is not the knee jerk "ban guns".

I have always believed that the American psyche is still routed in the 'frontier' mentality, which is what the Second Amendment was acutally about - the ability of people to defend themselves against criminals, and the government.
I also believe that each generation is a little les enamoured with guns than the one before, and there may come a day when gun control becomes a viable campaign on which to fight an election.
Certainly not in my life time, but evolution is all about each generation changing a little from the one before, so one day ..

I don't think changing the gun laws will have much effect. Most of the shooting atrocities since the early 80s have been committed by young white males. They have either been suffering from mental disorders or have had a deep racial hatred. Young people in their early 20s often develop schizophrenia. The problem in the US goes far deeper than gun control. A person with a mental health condition will always find a way to get hold of a gun.
