Do Radio Djs Still Cue In There Own Records?

I know in the old days you used to see clips of radio one DJs with two turntables in front of them playing 45s. Now of course everything is digital and there are a lot of guest DJs on the radio whom I would have thought have no the experience to be able to select music and start and stop it at the right time. Just wondered how it all worked these days.

BBC local radio eastern counties Sunday 22.00 Keith Skues does a live show playing 45's LP's and 78's , you know it's live when it goes wrong. Well worth a listen imo.

The system is the same as ever - those who can drive their own desk do so, and those that can't have a tech. to do it for them.

The systems are much simpler than in the old days!

I remember working with Bruno Brookes at Radio Stoke before he moved to Radio One, all the jingles were on individual cartridges (carts) and had to be slotted in and cued up.

Signles or albums again had to be cued up by the DJ. I remember once watching Bruno announcing a record, realising that the record was wrong side up, taking the player arm off, flipping the disc, re-cuing it, and bringing it in exactly at the end of the link he was delivering, during which time his voice never faltered. No-one listening would have known the panic that was going on in the studio!

It was like that in live radio back in the day!
