You're not wrong.
A pity it had to come to that to reach some agreement, maybe they can now cooperate better in the same cause.

Very interesting video there from James O'Brien.

Thank you.
So it seems....
//The force has vowed not to carry out surveillance operations based on religion or ethnicity//

Self-inflicted madness. They're fighting with one hand tied behind their backs.
They could never justify surveillance based on those parameters.
// We believe the legal rulings and settlement in this case will endure as part of a broader effort to hold this country to account for its stated commitment and its obligation to uphold religious liberty and equality.//

yup even the police have to obey the law - shock horror !
( o gawd quips Ni)
Danny, I wonder at which point justification takes second place?
In the good old days of de struggle for Oirish Freedom (guaranteed comeback if there is a hard border apparently), I would stongly object if I were included on a watch list because I was roman catholic

same goes for muslims ( for those who cant substitute muslim and roman catholic)
///At a press conference, the plaintiffs pointed out that the programme failed to produce a single lead despite spying on 20 mosques, 14 restaurants, 11 retail stores, 2 schools and 2 Muslim student associations in New Jersey. ///

They need to spend their time and efforts exploring other avenues...
PP. //for those who cant substitute muslim and roman catholic//

Those who do manage to do that are mistaken.
Naomi, indiscriminate planting of undercover officers in mosques etc does not seem a very efficient way of countering terrorism, and ,as it turns out, nothing came of it.I doubt that they would have enough officers to cover every mosque and school in New York anyway.
jackthehat, //They need to spend their time and efforts exploring other avenues...//

What other avenues? Do you think the places mentioned should be ignored?

danny, I doubt they would have enough officers to cover all mosques and schools but there is a common factor here and that shouldn’t, for the sake of diversity, integration, political correctness, or any other reason, be ignored.
justification for a state organ to break the law ?
there isnt one ( that is acquittal on the grounds of "they did it in the best possible taste". )
In the case of the secret policemen impregnating the protesters - when the chief constable said nothing to do with him, they went after the employees themselves. that is the victims did NOT say - "o yeah ok we will put up with it for the greater common good"

//justification for a state organ to break the law ?//
funny that
there are two very troublesome spies in Salisbury
and I think they have just gone out for a drink

how bad do they have to be in my opinion for it to be acceptable to try to murder them - ?

Hulloooo - I say it is never justified......
Naomi, so what you are advocating is that all Muslims and all members of non-white races should be kept under surveillance?
danny, no I'm not advocating that and that isn't what I said at all. What I am saying is that if the police (and everyone else) are aware that a problem emanates only from a particular section of society, which this one does, they should be keeping an eye on that community - not apologising for doing their best to keep the public safe - law-abiding Muslims included.
danny, given that Muslims come in all shades and from all corners of the earth, the 'non-white' reference in your post is unnecessary.
Naomi, I would agree with the policy of the New York police if they had had any suspicion or terrorist activities before planting undercover officers.
Bearing in mind that the threat emanates from only one section of society, it would be stupid not to be suspicious.

Be sensible how can they all be kept under surveillance, but it is sensible to keep an ear open on what is being taught in certain establishments, and since you brought it up what has colour got to do with matters?
Naomi, so now you are saying that every Muslim should be viewed with suspicion, don't you think that you are a wee bit paranoid?
