Obviously the Russians are ratcheting up the ante with talk of "war" between the US and themselves. While this is almost certainly bluster, it does and must give the civilised word pause.
If not military action is the finally decision (which I doubt it will be), well, the US has shown that they are prepared to take drastic non-military action against Russia, for one, which ultimately might involve cutting them out of SWIFT altogether, putting pressure on FIFA to postpone the World Cup, or simply tightening the noose further on the stolen funds Putin holds in US banks.
However, none of that addressed the issue of making a deterrent statement about the future use of chemical weapons by Syria or anyone else.
What part Russia actually plays in the direction on Syria's chemical war effrot no one knows, at least not in the unclassified world. A few weeks ago the head of the Russian armed forces himself actually stated that Stria was planning a chemical weapons attack. Why he did that is not clear.
What with the Salisbury attack also, it seems plain that Russia itself is an active player in the world of chemical weaponry, not merely as partner in Syria's crimes.

From what I understand the French say they have 'evidence' but are waiting for corroboration. One would hope we are doing the same.

The whole think is a load of bluster, the US cannot be seen to allow the use of chemical weapons, Russia cannot be seen to be attacked. If anything does happen Putin will be warned and get out the way do it costs a few mill in target practice to get one old Syrian MIG and a toilet and everyone just carries on.

Hi Jim, sorry, yes it was the rebels he was talking about, and it has been mentioned several times in the press but most recently in yesterday's Times. I guess it is pretty obvious why he said it now ...
How they think "the rebels" are going to drop canisters through roofs without planes (and without canisters, almost certainly, either) is anyone's guess.
