/// ‘To the British public, who I know to be generous and compassionate and who also want us also to return to their priorities, I offer this new approach and I say to them: be proud of what you enable. Be proud of the lives you save, and the future you build. Be proud of your country. Be proud of who we are.’ ///

Try saying that to those who are forced to live on our streets, to our elderly and disabled, and to our sick who's bed is in the hospital's corridor.

Yes
Yes,we get far more back in the form of trade / service agreements and export sales than it costs us in cash.
I'm not proud of this country's on-going stupidity - because that's what much of this generosity amounts to.
Do you think that if we canceled aid ,any of that money would be spent on the other things ?
I don’t
It's taking from the poor of a rich country, and giving it to the rich of a poor country.

//But critics pointed out that ministers have previously pledged to stop funding India – which can afford its own space programme – but it was still receiving aid money from Britain//

It's stupidity like that ^^^ that makes me question what we're doing

Yes in the main I am proud - that does not mean to say that all projects are sound.

Some deserve far greater scrutiny.

What do you think they would do with it then?
politics of envy - AOG

yes i am proud of the development aid

//What do you think they would do with it then?//

I think it would go into brown envelopes and end up in the same hands anyway
No I'm not, not when, like you say aog, we have kids living on the streets and the elderly treated appallingly in so called 'care' homes etc etc.
I have no strong feelings about it. My main priority is ensuring that the money is spent usefully rather than lining corrupt pockets.
nope, spend in on defence, lets' get us up the league.
BA for khandro, bang on
Stupid is as stupid does. We are world class stupid.
no, it should be stopped and money spent here on out crumbling infrastructure, and i dont mean posh office blocks, the worlds poor will always be so, and besides the point, a lot is spent on corrupt regimes and never filter down to its poor, bribes contracts payola call it what you will, oh them private jets for general bongo and his limousines. and yet we have tv commercials asking for more..
I am not going to comment as my views on foreign aid are too well known. Suffice it to say that I stand by the old cliché, Charity begins at home.
I don't think we have a choice about the amount. The United Nations sets the target . 14 billion is peanuts compared to the 250 billions we spend on Welfare in the UK. There are other countries far more generous than us.
of course we have a choice, what a silly thing to say.
We have a choice, it was Camoron who signed us up to the ridiculous percentage of GDP.
