I actually said that I don't think he necessarily meant any offence, hence my use of the word 'Muppet' rather than 'racist' or 'bigot', a 'Muppet' being a foolish, clueless thing rather than an assassin of malice. I actually by and large quite like Prince Charles, but it's his job not to get this sort of thing wrong, it's not an arduous job as jobs go, so he ought to make a big effort to get something so simplistic right, and besides it's simple good manners not to say something as crass and hurtful as that.

"I've been mistaken for other nationalities" - me too, on holiday in Spain the locals often assume I'm French or Italian, I take it as a compliment as should she have- I read it that it was awkward attempt at flattery - ie you're too attractive to be from Manchester.
