Fairly obviously because this sort of incident, given recent events, might be taken by many people to be terrorism related, which, awful though any such similar incident may be, is likely to cause unnecessary alarm.

Well yes that is a point, but as yet the police have nothing more to go on but the fact that the driver was a black man, he could still be a terrorist.

Initially I thought perhaps a ghastly accident, but it certainly doesn't look like an accident. I'm surprised that large crowd didn't pounce upon him and hold him down until police arrived.

I am not at all embarrassed, I asked a perfectly reasonable question and as yet no one as come up with the answer.

Until the perpetrator is caught and questions his reason for his crime will not be know by you, any other ABers or more important the police.

That is unless the police are withholding information that the driver left a note for them stating that this wasn't a terrorist attack gov.

Of course it may have been a deliberate act to hurt as many people as possible. However, having read the full article, it may be that the first instance was an accident but, in his haste to get away, he hit others. Then, when some of the crowd approached the car, maybe the driver totally panicked which caused even more collisions.

Quite quickly after an event like this, the public will want to know whether the attack was terror-related. It’s the second question (after “How many casualties?”).

It makes sense for the authorities to have that answer ready.
