the 75th anniversary of the famous raid by 617 squadron is being commemorated by special screenings of the film, for one day only.

the 4k restoration will doubtless include the renaming of Guy Gibson's dog. any bets as to what its factually inaccurate but politically correct name will be?

It should be called what is was called in the film..fgs!!
I agree with Voltage...the dog's name was ***.
Threestar... an excellent name:-)
It may be factually correct, but you couldn't use that name on a film made now.
I have no complaint if they rename it.
Dog of colour ?
As the dog doesn't actually pilot any of the planes, it's a shame that so much heat is generated by the name-change......

I'd far rather enjoy the exploits of 617 Squadron than pay much attention to the dog.

As an aside, my Grandad caused an expensive reshoot of part of the film... :o)
The steady drip of rewriting history when it suits. The dog was called that name and it was the code word used to say the dams had been breached. To use any other name is, however small, rewriting history. I note Wikipedia still use the correct word.
vulcan - I agree absolutely. People do not seem to be able to differentiate between a word and using that word aggressively as an insult. My wife had a dog with the same name as Guy Gibson's when she was a child and we had a female dog some years ago but I can't use the correct name for that as it is sometimes usd as a deliberate insult.
A neighbour has a black Labrador called Zulu. No offence intended, you'd have to be a snowflake to object, I think. Meddling with History is dangerous. The dog should have its correct name.
JTH...Barnes Wallis didn't pilot many planes either.
I misunderstood and thought this was a new film. If it is just the original, how can it be changed?
Yes, I know.
Is someone suggesting that Barnes Wallis undergoes a name change in the film, too?
Hopkirk, they often amend dialogue for TV screenings of films, especially if they're hoping for younger audiences.

There's an ITV version of Lethal Weapon where Mel Gibson says "Let's get these funsters!"
They also tinkered with Inspector Harry Callahan having him mouth the unlikely 'Opinions are like armpits, everybody has them'.

Saved me from swooning I suppose. :-)
OK. Let them change it. There is no doubt plenty else that is factually inaccurate in the film anyway.
