And not British troops?

The IRA Rae murdering scum. The soldiers doing their job as set out by the government of the day.

I am disgusted and appalled in equal measures at the treatment of our armed forces.

A soldier can be British, loyal and adhere to the law at the same time.
And it is no different from what I have said to my own brother who completed 4 tours out there during the troubles!
But at least my family volunteered to serve their country!
Exactly Corby!
steg: "Not all Scots hate the English" - perhaps, but you do so thanks for letting us know."
Islay: "But at least my family volunteered to serve their country! " - How do they feel about you always denigrating the country they served?
My family raised me to have my own mind and I learnt a lot of what I think and feel from my family
Black Friday, to mention one episode, was an unfortunate mistake. I know an ex-para who was there. He said they were backing away from the crowds, when one of the paras fell backwards over a small wall and his gun went off as he fell. The other paras thought they were being fired on, and opened up. That's is his version. Should any of those soldiers be prosecuted?
TTT, would you not rather the soldiers followed the law rather than impose their own sense of justice?

How would you determine what the amnesty would cover?Would it be incidents prior to a certain date or would it depend on the seriousness?
a) Yes, .islay, and members of the IRA volunteered to fight for THEIR country.

b) As did the Jewish ‘terrorists’ in Palestine, the Eoka in Cyprus, the Mau Mau in Kenya, and so on and on.

c) At some point in a conflict you HAVE to talk to the enemy, otherwise there would be no end to violence.
//steg: "Not all Scots hate the English" - perhaps, but you do so thanks for letting us know." //

Nae bother
The end to any conflict will only happen if the people want it to end. Political initiatives, police action, military intervention etc are useless unless the relevant population want peace. How would the people of Northern Ireland show that they wanted peace? Stop holding provocative marches for a start.
TCL, why dig over all this now?
During 3 tours of Northern Ireland in the 70s, i saw no transgressions of the Yellow and Green cards, at first hand. I did, however, hear of certain 'incidents' that had supposedly taken place. Most involved beatings but there were one or two members of other regiments who bragged that they had killed IRA members. And not in battle! This, of course, could well have been 'barrack room bragging' - bigging themselves up in the presence of wide-eyed recruits. On the other hand, some of these stories may have had a ring of truth about them.
If our armed forces are to be investigated, then so should members of para-military organisations on both sides of the divide - Protestant and Catholic.
If you care to read the link you’ll see that all killings ARE being investigated. This controversy has erupted because some people were given to understand that members of the armed forces would be exempt. But that won’t be the case.
Black Friday is a shopping bonanza isn’t it? Do you mean Bloody Sunday?
Sorry, Ich. Of course. It's an age thing! I'm saying that too much these days!
So he says.
Islay

Except the MIL of course.
Ich, it’s no use trying to inject facts into the debate. The usual blinkered AB bun fight has broken out.
My MIL did raise me. AOG you’re sniping attacks are so sad!!!
