I'd like to know why are these eyewatering amounts of money being given out (not just to these scumbags but to people genuinely affected)? Pre-paid Oyster cards for instance. How did they get around before the tradegy? I can sort of get recompense for lost belongings and alternative accommodation (even though both would have been covered by insurance had it been purchased - probably for £100 a year or so, so affordability shouldn't be an issue), but presumably living in London most would have had Oyster cards anyway. The fire wouldn't have changed this need or their ability to work.

I know this comes across as heartless, but surely largesse has a limit.

I just get the impression that some (If I knew how to put 'some' in italics I would) are treating this undoubted tradegy as a way of making money.

As for these scumbags (I won't use 'savages' as clearly this description to some appears to be worse than their crime) I sincerely hope if they are illegal they are deported. If they are not I hope their punishment is long.
