Italy is refusing to allow a boat with over 600 migrants to dock at it's ports. https://news.sky.com/story/italy-shuts-ports-to-rescue-ship-carrying-over-600-migrants-11401125. Good on Italy. I bet you ask those migrants where they're aiming for, I bet they say England!!

So you admit you told a porkie then Spath?
Lol
Ellipsis, That’s one way of looking at it I suppose, but allowing it to continue indefinitely simply exacerbates the problem so that isn’t the answer. We are not, and cannot be, responsible for everyone who wants to leave his own land.

Spath, ask yourself a practical question. If we allow uncontrolled immigration to continue into Europe how do we provide for those people? They need housing, jobs, education, medical care, social care., etc., etc …. and the more that come the more of all those things will be needed.
Spath , give up , just let her have the last word , it's as simple as that.

Spoath, unspecified numbers of people climbing aboard boats, being rescued and taken to European ports is not controlled immigration. Answer the question.

What isn't it? What are you talking about?

You want these people to be given access to Europe along with all the other people who decide to get on a boat and head for these shores. Given your wish, how do you suggest we provide them all with everything they will need?

You have seen nothing yet. South Africa is about to blow. Already taking the Zimbabwe/Mugabe route. Massive unemployment and the crime rate is rocketing. There are reports of train loads of "travellers" migrating North. The railways just about run out or stop working around about Zimbabwe and usable roads around about Malawi. Kenya is just about passable with difficulty but the Sudan is a hole. Next stop Libya and the "charideee" boats. The more who make it and report home the fact, the more will start to make the journey. What do our hand wringers want to do? Why not let them in, feed and clothe them, provide homes and medical care and the necessary mobile phone and the means to invite more of course. Still I am sure they get the buzz of righteous piety out of it at least.
Spath, I've not diverted. I've asked you a practical question to which I've received no practical answer. Do you want to try again?
europe cannot provide for every would be migrant, its unsustainable.
what diseases do they bring and criminality, any have education..i doubt it, you would invite civil unrest on europes native population.
altruism is a fine thing, noble...but chaoes would ensue, boats have to be stopped heading to europe, whats the longterm cure, i dont think there is one albeit birth control, perhaps some investment in local works like farming road building etc, makes jobs improves infrastructure.
kvalidir ///I really am shocked and appalled by the whole tone of this thread, come on people aren't you better than this, you are so insulated///

Are you posting from the Orangerie, kval?
Idealists are quite happy to denigrate practicality as cruel and heartless. They will interpret other people’s words how they see fit. Stark reality alludes them, it’s distasteful and disgusting. You cannot fit a quart into a pint pot. Oh blinkered humanity how foolish you are.
