OG, kvalidir's reference was specifically to ex-pats.
Literally thousands of immigrants that just get jobs that otherwise could have been taken by natives, open businesses that otherwise could have been opened by natives, and pay the same taxes the natives would otherwise have paid anyway, instead of natives being out of work and needing help, thus being a drain on the tax system that they otherwise wouldn't have been.
Ex pats tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves so not be an issue. But thanks for clarifying.
With Spanish youth unemployment running circa 34% and general unemployment running at circa 16% you have a very valid point OG.
One country's ex-pat is another country's immigrant, is it not?

> Ex pats tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves so not be an issue.

That is not correct. That's one type of ex-pat. But whenever I've worked abroad, as a British ex-pat and described as such, my earnings have been to fund myself.

You don't immediately think of Spain when you think of the British working abroad. But northern Europe, the USA, the Middle East, the Far East, etc etc all have thriving British working ex-pat communities.
Ellipsis, I’m not sure what you mean. In my experience ex-pats in Spain have either retired there and have sufficient funds to support themselves, or they work to support themselves. They don’t depend on the State to fund them.
Yes, retired and self-sufficient, or working and self-sufficient.

Get to work on those dots, Ellipsis.
There are a whole load of NGOs assisting in "Search and Rescue", Webb, including what was once my own favourite and default charity Médecins sans Frontières.
Crazy to facilitate it. The best laid schemes of mice and men … and all that.
Who knows what beliefs these people hold? The security of Europe is being compromised (even more) before our very eyes.
I've no objection to foreign countries objecting to British or other working folk there. But they need to decide for themselves whether their country benefits or otherwise from them. There are times when foreign workers are an asset, but not in an overcrowded country without 100% employment and a decent welfare system.
What bit of what I said was unclear, Naomi? I’ll be happy to explain further ...
Ellipsis, OG said //Ex pats tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves so not be an issue. //

You said, // That is not correct.//

Why isn't it correct?
O/G , 19.25 , "Decent Welfare System" in the E/U , Spain ranks at number 3 ,
in the table , UK at number 12.
//Ex pats tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves so not be an issue. //

In my experience most ex pats have not accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves, i.e. live without working.

Many British ex-pats work. We (and they) call them ex-pats and the country they are working in may call them "immigrants". I've been one in the past and I know plenty of them now.
Ellipsis , //whenever I've worked abroad, as a British ex-pat and described as such, my earnings have been to fund myself……//

As are the earnings of ex-pats working in Spain.

//in my experience most ex pats have not accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves, i.e. live without working. //

Okay. That’s your experience whereas it isn’t the experience of others. Why is any of that relevant to this thread?
You sound a bit like andy-hughes, naomi, when you castigate him for talking without knowledge or experience on a topic you know so much better. From my knowledge and experience, I am saying that ex pats, contrary to OG's claim, don't tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves. That's why so many of them work for a living.
Ellipsis, //I am saying that ex pats, contrary to OG's claim, don't tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves.//

When you said //You don't immediately think of Spain when you think of the British working abroad// I gained the impression that you hadn't actually lived or worked in Spain but were referring to other places. No?

As for your misconception, rest assured that if I'm ignorant of the subject matter I steer well clear of the discussion.
OK, then do you claim that "Ex pats tend to have already accumulated enough wealth to fund themselves so not be an issue."
