Hopefully the length of these sentences will start to send out a message to anyone inclined to indulge in this sort of abhorrent behavior

We need to do more in the way of educating the perps as well as the victims (or is that too revolutionary for you).
And we need to be careful with the education of the (potential) victims, not to drive them into the predatory Meeto Brigade.

Probably wont deter others, some will be out in 4 but at least it moves these ones from the street to the NONCE wing where they belong. Problem as as 'special' guests no doubt they will get nice special meals and treated with kid gloves for fear of racism claims. Still they are not on the street I guess.
// I don't think sentences actually deter criminals, because no criminal ever thinks they are going to be caught. //
Deterrence is not the only point of sentencing. It is also intended to keep the public safe from dangerous scum by keeping them out of circulation. In that regard long sentences work very well.

I see the usual suspects are avoiding the elephant in the room. This is not "young men" but Muslim young men: Andy: When I referred to education in my post, I meant to say that it is young men who need to be educated in terms of respect for other human beings. " Educate Islam? good luck with that. Muslim men hate women even their own, Western women doubly so. That is why we are always reading about them raping women all over Europe. Young men generally commit the odd sex crime but lets be Honest, Muslim men are the most prolific.
Enslaving and raping non-Muslim women is not an immoral act. It's exactly what Mohammed and his followers did in the 7th century. The trafficking of slaves for sex has been practised by all Muslim empires and sultanates ever since until the practice was formally ended (under duress) in the 20th century.
Mohammad is the "Perfect Man" and the "Model of Conduct".

jackthehat, //But it would have been nice if we could have concentrated on the Education aspect, perhaps, as brought forward in the earlier posts..... //
ummmm asked questioned why these men do what they do and in true AnswerBank form one or two of us have attempted to enlighten her. Having said that if you would like to discuss the educational aspect there's no reason that can't be done so let's have a go. How would you suggest we begin to replace a lifetime of dubious indoctrination (and I'm being polite there) with a philosophy that is socially acceptable to a civilised society?

Ok, naomi.....you have a bash at that, and I'll concentrate on raising the awareness of the girls; to teach them to value themselves and their bodies; to teach them how to protect themselves and stay out of situations where they are vulnerable; to teach them that many, many older men will have few scruples about using them for their own ends; to give them a framework of support where they can 'tell' in safety.
