Bizarre, but not unknown. On more than one occasion when I was in the RAF lads were known to wake up in the small hours after a night on the juice only to mistake the wardrobe for the toilet.
Me too. So many unanswered questions. Weren't the family in touch ? They surely must have been even a tiny bit anxious as she was on her own, What about Housekeeping ? Poor thing, must have been dreadful for her.
Poor woman. How terrifying. I got stuck in the bathroom when the lock broke. I was panicking as I had left food cooking on the hob, and I thought the house would burn down with me trapped.
I've gone the wrong way in my own bedroom in the house I've lived in for 20 years, trying to get behind the mirror to go to the loo. I've had to put the light on to reorient myself. Easy mistake to make, I think.
I agree Clover. Very strange things can happen when you wake up in the middle of the night, especially if you have been on the drink. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
That is sad, but can happen. Some people who used to live next door to us, had her mother over from South Africa. She got up in the night to go to the bathroom (strange surroundings), and she took a wrong turn and fell down the stairs. She had to go to hospital, but at least she survived.
We, as you may know, live in Gwynedd and after talking with "She who must be obeyed" (who does a little work with local "agencies") came to the conclusion that the poor woman either had a close space fetish(not unheard of) or became disorientated after "medication". We could not however understand how she was not able to make good her escape after breaking plasterboard walls when after she managed to break off a piece of copper pipe. It does get very cold though at that time of the year in that area.
I have often woke up suddenly in the middle of the night (drink or no drink) and haven't had a clue where I was, even though I was lying in my own bed. It is for this reason that I leave my bedroom light on whilst I sleep; I can't afford any more accidents at my time of life.
I agree with the coroner, a tragic case of misadventure. One problem though, if I had booked into an hotel and made no show the following day I would expect them to be on my case pronto, if for no other reason that they might think I had done a runner. A whole week?
It was her own timeshare unit so staff would not be concerned about her but by the same token she should have known the layout well. She was either a bit worse for wear or half asleep and opened the wrong door. Very sad
You are very close to an answer with the word "misadventure" Jackdaw. In that area people book in and disappear, hiking or climbing for days on end. I really cannot say more.
