National Service In France Do We Need It Here?

I am very much in favour of national service in Britain what do other abs think ?

Ummmm, he does it to wind up people who have good working,hard studying young people around them whose only need for a moped may be to get to Air Cadets or their Aeronautical Engineering course (to use a personal example).

There are quite a lot of countries where conscription is compulsory. Not because they look on it as a means of instilling discipline etc. into unruly young people. Rather more that those countries are preparing for the eventuality of conflict and wars.

Erm, there's a lot more to the army than shooting people! How about learning basic human decency, respect for authority, puntuality, hygiene and comradeship for starters?!

There are clearly thousands of young people with little or nothing meaningful to do judging by the numbers protesting about this, that and the other all over our cities- surely they could be put to good use?

I get the impression that most of those backing the idea would not be of an age suitable to carry it out, so it would really be just for other people's kids.

Some of the arguments here are so ironic- many who believe that re-introducing national service would be an "intrusion of liberty" etc- is there really now generations of people who have been brought up to believe that you don't have to do anything you don't want to in life? Nutters.
