Prosecutions which lead to the punishment of those who compounded their wrong decisions by perverting the course of justice, and causing needless anguish for bereaved families, and damage to the reputation of a city's football community can only be a good thing for those left grieving and wanting answers, and justice for their lost loved ones.

Then we can let it rest.

I would imagine the families of the Italians killed by the Liverpool fans consider that the disgrace of Heysel damaged the reputation of a city's football community more than the poor decision made by a single officer in Sheffield. A decision that was made under, no doubt, some considerable pressure but without knowing of the terrible events that would unfold.

Presumably Cressida Dick needs to be looking over her shoulder because she made a difficult decision under extreme pressure that resulted in the death of an innocent Brazilian.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing to have when it comes to looking for a scapegoat.

A poor decision made by a single officer is not the issue here - it is the systematic pervasion of the course of justice by a large number of police officers of high rank, and attendant organisations and individuals that conspired to distort the truth, lay blame elsewhere, and generally escape the consequences of what happened.

Andy Hughes - that's not quite correct. Duckenfield is being charged with negligent manslaughter, two other officers and a solicitor are being charged with perverting the course of justice. Two is not, I would suggest, a large number.

I entirely agree - but this is not 'scapegoating' anyone to 'sate' anyone else, this is legal process being followed, and it is correct it is done, later, but better than not at all.

You do seem somewhat fixated on the notion of 'ticketless fans' although evidence suggests that they were not a factor in the way that the police clearly were, and there is no process for prosecuting anonymous individuals without evidence of any crime they may have committed.
