It all very well the EU nations decided no the best way forward for them but Africa just says ... computer says no.
It’s a bit like Brexit.
The UK government can bicker and whinge about what they want the future relationship with the EU to be but it is actually down to the EU to say yay or nay.

At the end of the day our government can dicker all they like. It will make no difference as th EU will just say no.
If we allow them, it is the only bit of power they have left over us. If we allow it. On the other hand if we walk off they loose that power.
Actually it was more about how the EU can pompously decree an African state will have migrant centres without having any say in how or what that country does.
It shows what a lot of us knew already. The EU are up their own backsides and think they rule the world already.

Alas the EU has a habit of developing policies without too much thought for those outside the bloc. It is quite obvious that African countries are not going to make any effort to "process" (whatever that might mean) people whose aim is simply to head for Europe. Why on Earth should they? Perhaps the best they can do is to persuade Libya (and a few other north African countries such as Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) to join the EU and sign up to Schengen.

Quite so, cassa. But what is missing from the equation is the EU's proposals for their relationship with the UK. Since they run a trade surplus of some £80bn a year with us it is very much in their interest to come to a mutually beneficial agreement. But little or no emphasis is placed on that and instead we behave like a supplicant state.

Dead right about the trade surplus NJ. But we will let them have a better trade deal because the remainers don’t understand that the financial sector is our bread basket and we won’t get a reciprocal financial deal.
The remainers will hail it a triumph of a deal and blame someone else for our slow spiral downwards.

You are all missing the point though. All these illegal African and Arabic immigrants were intended to be funneled HERE! Our Brexit vote has put them all into a panic. They are afraid of being stuck with them( think decades not years for dispersal) after devising a plan to swamp us, then use our very own geography to contain them here. Send every illegal back whence they came.
The £80b situation could go one of two ways tho. If we walk away (which is still legally....dodgy at best.....not possible at worst) and tariffs are immediately imposed, scenario a) is that it becomes uneconomic to trade with us and the £80b is swiftly reduced (this may have a negative effect on the EU insofar as causing dissent of the member states affected economically by the loss of trade). Scenario b) is, we decide to pay a higher price for the goods and the £80b is swiftly increased.
No one knows whether one or none of the above would be the result as we’re in uncharted waters.

‘because the remainers don’t understand that the financial sector is our bread basket and we won’t get a reciprocal financial deal’
Erm....yes we do and that’s why a lot of us voted to keep the very profitable situation for both parties status quo.
And don’t be under any illusion. Should it all go tits up, we’ll blame the leave voters!

But you’ve just given a very good reason why the status quo should have remained. Financial sector stability.
Blame the negotiators. Sure, we can blame them but you’ve created a situation where a bunch of pro EU people have been put in charge of a highly complex situation no one has been in before. Is the penny starting to drop that that might not have been the wisest thing to have done?
Most of the moaning seems to be being done by the leave voters (this thread being a prime example) but ‘leavemoners’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, does it.
