For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.Quite a lot in the article about "research" and what research "shows".
For instance, under the heading "DO CHANGES TO THE BRAIN MAKE OLDER PEOPLE MORE GRUMPY?" we get this:
"A study of 60 people aged 17 to 95 found older people were worse at identifying others' emotions and intentions.".
Note the conclusion - "A study...found".
Let's not bother with minor details like how the sixty were selected and the methodology used to measure empathy and concentrate solely on the statistical merit of this piece of "research".
"Older people"? Is that people in the age range 76 to 95? Assuming an even spread of ages that would give us a sample of fifteen oldies, wouldn't it? Or maybe "older people" means people between 86 and 95, giving us a sample of seven or eight.
In other words that piece of "research" is statistically meaningless. As for the other "studies" cited in the article, well, we're not given any information about the methodologies employed. But we are talking about Social Science departments in modern universities
