I Didn't Know About The Cistitis Rule!
73 Answers
I have been suffering from this for a few days so yesterday I went to the chemists in the Co-op. I asked for something for cistitis.
The assistant asked if it was for me, I said yes it was.
She asked me how old I was. I replied 75.
She said I'm sorry I cannot sell it to you. I asked her why.
We are not allowed to sell it to people under the age of 16 and over 65.
I asked are people over 65 and under 16 not going to have cistitis then?
Apparently we have to go to the doctors to get a prescription. How ridiculous is this.
I left shaking my head in amazement. I then went to Boots. I asked for some there. They were out of stock but would order some, it would be available this afternoon. I went to collect it with an idea in my head, if I was questioned I would say it was for my daughter who's car had broken down!
Anyway I went in the shop. Asked for the preordered item. I was served with it, no questions at all. How can two chemist have different rules?

Hi, Caran.....because I don't fare well in very hot countries I always take cystitis powders with me.... Never had to use them but last month I replaced the very out of date ones and had no problem buying them...
I also wanted some Clotrimazole.....the chap asked how old I was.....I couldn't see why I had to tell him that so he said he could only sell it to me if I was under sixty otherwise I had to see a doctor....
I told him I was fifty nine....so he sold it to me.....with a wry smile..... :-)

andy that doesn't work...although it can be comforting, if messy, while the body fights off the fungal infection.....what is so silly about those two links is that it doesn't say why being over 65 means that you need to see a doctor. I have to say that I just order the pharmacy meds that I want online and lie about my age.
a-h, you seem to be under the misapprehension that men cannot suffer cystitis.

"... When men get cystitis, it can be more serious than for women.
Male cystitis is more likely to result from another underlying condition, such as a prostate infection, cancer, an obstruction, or an enlarged prostate.
Men who have sex with men are more likely to have cystitis than other men.
In most cases of male cystitis, early treatment solves the problem effectively, but untreated male bladder infections can lead to kidney or prostate infections or damage."
