It is very rare to see one of London's killers caught and convicted, at one time if a murder was committed there would be a mass police investigation until the murderer was caught and convicted, now it seems a rare occasion, could it be that because most of London's escalating murders are committed by ethnic minorities, and the police do not want to be labelled racist? It has happened in the past.

AOG they never have a referendum unless they are sure of getting the answer they want......hang on!
ummmm, it worked in the past as they were used as labourers not artisans.
It’s good to see an America styled big sentence meted out and I would like to see more sentences like this thrown at our worst offenders and pedophiles.

//They should bring back 'hard labour' which they could do building roads etc.//

Unfortunately these days it’s all machines doing most of the work and I usually see workmen either lying on their backs with their hands behind their heads, on their phones or smoking and wolf whistling at women and basically getting paid for doing anything at all.

1802 according to this:

Robert Snooks was the last man to be executed in England for highway robbery, on 11 March 1802. Born in Hungerford in Berkshire, he was christened as James Snook on 16 August 1761. The fact that his name is commonly quoted as Robert Snooks is perhaps due to a corruption of his identity as the "Robber" Snook.
Things have changed Danny. H&S wouldn't allow it. You need training to work on the roads now.

This 'savage' should have his sentence doubled since he won't tell the police who his partner in crime was.
ummmm, How about employing them to do the labouring when work starts on Heathrow's extra runway.
Work gangs are incredibly expense as you need so much supervision per prisoner - it all sounds good on paper but the reality is very different.
^ expensive
//Robert Snooks was the last man to be executed in England //
'England' have you forgotten Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales as they are part of the UK, also the 3 reports I have read on Snooks all say 'reportedly' as there is confusion around the actual year.
gawd there's a sack of spuds on your shoulder mate!
///there would be a mass police investigation ///

But with all the Tory cuts there are no longer masses of police available.
Danny....they aren't trained to do it. They have to hold tickets. Who will pay for their training? Then think about the staffing costs. You're talking about murderers. That will take a lot of staff and cost a fortune.

If someone dumped tonnes of tarmac or turned up with tonnes of concrete, would you know what to do with it? Do you know how much safety gear they have to wear?
OK ummmm, I surrender.

How many police does it take to investigate a murder?
Question Author
ummmm
Well let's employ them breaking up rocks, not much skill in that, and all that would be needed to satisfy H&S, would be a hard hat, a high viz jacket, safety glasses, safety boots, ear plugs and a sledge hammer.
//We did once hanged highway robbers.//

We also rid around in horse drawn carriages, sent our kids down the mines, up chimneys and ate gruel 3 times day but thankfully times have changed.
Danny....I'm not being dismissive. My OH works for an engineering firm and the amount of red tape they have to jump through. The council has to sign off every job they do. How many council workers would be happy to go and meet with convicted murderers? The job is more complex than people think. You have to think about traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, cat eyes, barriers. The prisoners would have to be able to read plans. I've read my OH's plans and they make no sense whatsoever....but they do to him as he's trained.
nothing to do with London. Less than 10% of all crimes in England and Wales end up with charges even being brought

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/jul/19/knife-crime-up-16-per-cent-england-and-wales

So it's rare to see anyone caught and convicted of anything.

It's a good job really. We'd need 10 times as many prisons as we currently have.
