//This is the sort of thing the Darwin Awards exist for. “A train won’t come without wa-...”//

No, the Darwin awards are designed for adults. Children don't know the dangers which is why we're supposed to educate and watch out for them.

I have some sympathy with this bloke to be honest. He made a mistake, and we've all done that.
Agreed
Back in the days when children could buy penny platform tickets and take photographs of the trains, we found being so close to a line you could actually hear a train coming from the line itself. This noise was referred to as the line is singing.

Such an odd thing for a parent to do.....it's giving your child permission to do things like this when not supervised...
A harmless image when there wasn’t any danger.

Another non news filler scaremongering mass hysteria story to fill the void.

Have you seen the images of the people overlooking a cliff drop as they bathe on the edge? Pictures can sensationalise a pic with the correct angle and wording.
If this story saves only one child from a potential death, then it is truly a worthy news story.
Devon is an inquisitive kid and wanted to pick up a stone or piece of wood from the track as treasure.

Jesus, the kid sounds more deprived than I was as a kid.

Dad's a numpty but there a definite overreaction going on.
saw this on FB ..what an idiot of a father
Great Caesar's ghost!

'Child photographed, nothing happens'.

The world 'takes to Twitter'.

Not all bad though, it got Tora off Brexit for a while.

The Darwin awards are designed to reward the removal of idiots from the gene pool. It doesn't work if the idiot's already had children, unless they're removed too/instead ...
The father was on our local news, he said he wants his children to be free to explore their surroundings and to take risks to broaden their horizons. I know the station well and my personal opinion is that the man is an idiot.
He may have been an idiot but I'm just thinking before mobile phones and cctv my parents didn't have a clue what we got up to. I did some pretty dangerous things as a kid.
So did I Ummmm, but not with my mum or dad watching.
horselady // … he said he wants his children to be free to explore their surroundings and to take risks to broaden their horizons. //

Hopefully his definition of 'taking risks to broaden their horizons' doesn't regularly include the risk of decapitation!
Ummmm, I was just thinking similar and also glad no one was around to film my parenting and send it ballistic at the drop of a hat too.
But Ludwig, this father didn't think he'd made a mistake !
My children think it's very funny to tell me the things they got up to unbeknown to me when they were kids and watch the look of horror spread across my face.
Mine do that, LB...and I'm still finding things out.... they love to see your face don't they....... :-)

They know I'd have stopped them at the time....unlike this father....x
ladybirder, or the other way round - hearing about the things my parents got up to when in short pants...

A lot of fuss about nothing, I think.
So there you go: Train spotting isn't such a boring activity after all is it?
