so selling pirated goods on the streets is legal or they turn a blind eye, they cannot work legally? and at the same time x amount are let in on humanitarian grounds, seems they have made a rod for there own backs. i don't think they get unemployment benefits..so what to do with them, youth unemployment in spain is very high, and they are educated, these migrants are not educated, you could educate them if possible ie language barrier, i suppose they could learn spanish, and then maybe? find work or deport them.

I am not endorsing them, but African street vendors have sold their wares on the streets of Spanish cities, and on beaches, for years; even when there was a right-wing government.

Just about, due to Spain's acceptance of economic migrant boat people, that Italy has now refused to take in.

PP is attacking this practice now in an effort to gain some of the popularity (no pun intended) it has lost in recent years mainly through corruption within its ranks. Nobody except AOG is claiming that it is a new practice. The photo could have been taken 20 years ago when I was in Barcelona except that the names on the Barça strips they are selling would have been different.

Perhaps AOG has never been to Spain.

You mean the Spanish government does not see it as an invasion. I don't think anybody has actually canvassed the Spanish people for their views. A couple of weeks back a large rubber boat was beached at El Canuelo on the Costa del Sol and around thirty African men disembarked and legged it up the beach pursued by border guards. The expressions on the faces of the sunbathing locals and tourists may have suggested they didn't view the travellers as tourists pulling in for afternoon tea and cakes.

No European government seems to treat the current migration phenomenon as an invasion. And that's the problem.

I never said that street vendors or even beach vendors is a new practice, but what I did say was that Spain is now accepting economic migrants, that Italy has refused to take in, that is a new practice.

And yes I have been to Spain many times, mostly on the southern coast, and yes I have seen a few street and beach vendors, but I have never seen them swarming onto the beaches from vessels, as if it was a modern day D Day.

Read my article link. There seems to be an assumption that the Spanish are up in arms about this, which the article clearly refutes and goes further in saying that the xenophobia needs to stop.
