Sorry folks, but this looks like a publicity scam to me. You don’t just fall off a cruise liner unless you have some help from humans or alcohol. No sympathy for this woman, who was probably wearing a hard hat and neck brace when she left the boat.
well it does seem a bit odd I grant you, quite hard to fall off a cruise ship but lets say she did, she didn't look anything like as knackered as she should be if she'd been treading water and swimming for 10 hours. Dunno what actually happened but it does look like there is more to come out of this.
also 10 hours without drinking water, especially following alcohol, she must have bee close to dying of thirst but she didn't look like that either. I suspect some sort of attention seeking stunt.
She could have been in the cabin of A.N. Other for hours when she heard the call over the tannoy for her to present herself so she jumped overboard and was picked up within the half hour.
Maybe
\\We were told she had left her handbag, which contained her passport, on the deck before falling, and that the incident was captured on CCTV,' he added. 'Apparently she had been drinking.' //
On the BBC website where they list newspaper headlines, under the Guardian it states she was thrown overboard. The thot plickens, as William Spooner would say.
I don't why but I found this dodgy too, not the falling off, not even the water temps as it's in the high 20s at the moment but the fact she managed to tread water for 10 hours
Having cruised many times, I know it is quite hard to fall overboard, you need to behave very foolishly to put yourself in a position where you can fall.
I doubt anyone would do it on purpose though.
The fall alone is dangerous, from that height, serious injury is quite likely, and even if she was spotted falling, there is no guarantee that she would be found.
According to some sites, she had a drunken arguement with her travelling companions. Sounds a bit like a "Nobody loves me - well, I`ll show them" sort of situation.
Talbot - // Down market cruise ship, andy or an elite cruise ship? //
'Upmarket' - although I fail to see the relevance.
The point is, for a ship to operate, it has to pass rigorous safety standards, and that will mean that falling overboard accidentally is only ever possible if you put yourself in a position of danger first.
