Chavez died 5 years ago.
Venezuala doesn’t have many resourses, but it does have lots of oil which underpins their whole economy. Unfortunately oil prices have plummeted since 2010.

The fall in the price of oil was due to factors outside of Venusualas control: US fracking, Saudi over production.

The result is an economic crisis and the population is starving. The Government is corrupt, and the recent election was dodgy, so people are desperate to leave the country.

The problem with Venezuela is communist economics.

And its most famous and brightest endorser of Chavez was/is Noam Chomsky (IQ 200).

Where Gromit fits in the intelligence ranking which includes Corbyn etc I leave up to Gromit to judge.

Whoever was in power in Venezuela would have the same problem. They rely too much on oil receipts and the price of oil has dropped dramatically, so they are not earning enough money. Venezuelans or fleeing economic collapse, not communism.
The low oil price is having a similar effect in Mexico (though they are less reliant on oil) and they do not have a Communist Government.

the oil situation is certainly a factor gromit but a far greater problem is the fact that the country is basically run by criminal gangs skimming what they can controlling corrupt officials at every level. The national sport is kidnapping and indigenous population live on the crumbs that are left who can blame them for wanting out.
